Founder & Head Writer | Recipe Creator | Family Food Storyteller | Age 35
Portland, Oregon–based mom, writer, and kitchen dreamer who believes mealtime should be filled with laughter, color, and a sprinkle of love.
My Story as a Mom Creating Kid Friendly Recipes
NumNum Recipes was born out of my own family chaos — the kind where dinner often came after homework, spilled milk, and giggles that just wouldn’t stop. I was a busy mom juggling writing projects and motherhood, constantly searching for easy meals for kids that were healthy but still fun enough to tempt my little eaters.
After years in digital content and food writing, I realized most “healthy family meals” felt more like pressure than pleasure. So I started experimenting — simplifying steps, sneaking in veggies, and letting my kids stir, taste, and play. What began as a few recipes scribbled in a notebook slowly turned into a joyful mission: to help parents everywhere rediscover the magic of cooking with their kids, not just for them — especially through healthy meals for kids and fun food play.
The Turning Point
It all clicked one rainy Sunday when my daughter, Lily, asked, “Mom, can we make something that laughs?”
We ended up baking banana pancakes with silly fruit faces — and they were such a hit that she begged to help again the next day. That single breakfast changed everything.
I realized that when kids have fun in the kitchen, they’re more curious, confident, and eager to eat the food they make. The recipes didn’t have to be perfect — they just had to be playful, easy, and made with heart. That moment became the foundation of NumNum Recipes and my approach to family cooking: joyful, simple, and full of togetherness.
What I Learned the Hard Way
In the early days, I tried to make everything picture-perfect — Pinterest-worthy meals, flawless photos, strict routines. But that only led to burnout and disappointment.
I learned that perfection doesn’t feed families — connection does.
Kids don’t remember spotless counters; they remember being trusted to stir the bowl or decorate their “monster muffins.” The best recipes are the ones that make memories. That truth reshaped not only how I cook, but how I lead this blog of easy kid-friendly recipes.
My Approach to Easy Recipes for Kids
Today, I’m building NumNum Recipes with a calm, creative, and family-first mindset.
Each recipe I share is tested in my own kitchen and designed to be healthy, quick, and actually fun to make — from easy no-bake recipes for kids to healthy kids’ recipes and colorful snacks little hands can help prepare. I’m also inspired by evidence-based guidance such as the Healthy Eating Plate resources from the Harvard School of Public Health, which promote simple, joyful, balanced meals for kids while keeping food approachable for real families.
Whether it’s veggie-packed mac ’n’ cheese or no-bake snack bites, my goal is simple: to make every meal a happy little adventure for families, especially the busy ones like mine.
As a mom and recipe creator with years of experience in digital content and family food writing, I focus on sharing practical, tested ideas that work in real homes. Behind every post is a sprinkle of SEO strategy, a dash of design love, and a whole lot of laughter.
